What could Monty Python have to do with an argument for God? Glad you asked.
Intro:
When it comes to Monty Python… <sound effect…sorry, you’ll just have to listen>.
Some of you may have heard that one of the original half dozen Monty Python Members, Terry Jones, passed this week. And some of you are like, Monty who?
I say this not just because Monty Python was a big aha! moment for me in my youth, but because, despite sacrilege and secularity, they were genius at what they did. AND there is an argument for the existence of God that comes from beauty, design, excellence in our work and world. I’m not saying that they saying something vulgar is beautiful, but that there is something in every person who longs for beauty, excellence, that which is good and honorable and noble.
So maybe it’s too much of a stretch, but I think that we as Christian ambassadors should do our best to recognize excellence…and use it to point to the Transcendent.
Anyway, shall we read?
