Lead:

What is the “law of Christ?” And how should New Testament, New Covenant believers relate to the Old Testament, Old Covenant laws?

Intro:

Today is a weird day, caught between yesterday and tomorrow. I imagine you have some days like that.

And truth be told, there’s nothing I’d rather do than to try to be a little Jesus, a little encouragement in people’s lives. Whether I’m on a stage and get a chance to give them a glimmer of hope, or in a one-on-one phone call across the miles.

Yesterday I had occasion to speak with a professional colleague that I don’t know well. I learned things about her life that I had no idea were going on, things that are genuine hardships, and I had a chance to just pray for her on the spot. It was a business call, to be sure, talking about professional stuff, but I guess that’s the point.

Our normal lives will put us in the path of people who have a lot of other stuff going on.

I’ve not looked ahead to today’s reading, so I’m just going to roll. See you on the other side.

Old covenant:

Passage: Exodus 4-6
Translation: CSB (Christian Standard Bible)
Verses: 83
Words: ~2113

New covenant:

Passage: Galatians 6
Translation: CSB (Christian Standard Bible)
Verses: 18
Words: ~394

Commentary:

The “law of Christ” only appears twice in the New Testament, once in Galatians and once in 1 Corinthians. I close with a little riff on why I’d argue that this is reflective of the ordering of everything based on the nature and character of God.

Love you!
