*** SHOW NOTES (not a transcript) ***

Lead:

If there is a “silver bullet” question to ask someone else, this is it.

Intro:

In the short little book of 3rd John the author tells the person(s) he’s writing to

Beloved, it is a faithful thing you do in all your efforts for these brothers, strangers as they are, who testified to your love before the church. You will do well to send them on their journey in a manner worthy of God. 7 For they have gone out for the sake of the name, accepting nothing from the Gentiles. Therefore we ought to support people like these, that we may be fellow workers for the truth. 3 Jn 5–8, ESV (emphasis mine)

So because you’re a supporter here (even if just by listening), I want to share a story during the All Our Minds segment about how I got to share the good news of Jesus with someone this week…and do so in a way that you can use (and not just for sharing the gospel).

Bible Segment:

Passage: Luke 17-18
Translation: NASB (New American Standard Bible)
Verses: 80
Words: ~1710

All Our Minds Segment:

Note, this will be bullet points outlining the story…you’ll have to listen to the podcast to hear it.

  • Business associate, clearly curious

  • Trouble in the past with both people and the church

  • Staunchly defended an agnostic position that was steeped in religiosity — the perspective that the world would just be a better place if everyone would make better choices.

  • Did not see that “trying to earn a way to heaven” was just as religious as doing a bunch of rituals at a church that had forgotten about the person and work of Jesus.

The bottom line

“THE question” is the one that opens up the conversation to expose the place the person you’re talking to holds something by faith. You can then replace that faulty assumption with the soundness of the Christian worldview. But that question only comes as you dialogue with someone and is particular to that conversation. To get there “the question” to ask is, “What do you mean by that?”

Wisdom Segment:

Passage: Psalm 92
Translation: NASB (New American Standard Bible)
Verses: 15
Words: ~82

Love you!
