Want to know where “For the Hope” gets its name? Today’s the day?

Intro:

I want YOU!

Some of you might remember an iconic image from the WWII era that had a picture of Uncle Sam pointing his index finger directly at the onlooker. The caption read: “I want YOU for the U.S. Army!”

Well, as you’ll hear me remind you today, one of the most important verses in the Bible is one we’ll read today — a verse that’s kinda like God going, “Yo! God here! You! I want you.”

Yesterday I mentioned briefly the three reasons — according to Peter, that we should discipline our Christian lives…

  1. You're a foreigner in a pagan environment there will always need for making adjustment.

  2. If you’re yielded to the flesh, you’ll be waging battle against your best self.

  3. Your self-discipline and obedience will have a wholesome influence on unbelievers.

…and right at the end we started into a section that connects to where we pick up today: that how we conduct ourselves in relationship demonstrates God’s goodness in a world He designed and created. He started with the relationship of slaves or servants or employees to their bosses, and that would have been rather revolutionary.
