If you were writing to someone, and you knew it was going to be the last time they heard from you, what would you say?
Intro:
If you were writing to someone, and you knew it was going to be the last time they heard from you, what would you say?
In a sense, this is what we have in Peter’s second letter, written from Rome to the same churches he wrote to before. And his message breaks down into three big buckets which happen to coincide with the three chapters of this short book.
First, you’ll hear Peter’s challenge to them to continue growing spiritually. And perhaps worth mentioning is that his list of things to do look nothing like “spiritual disciplines” that have waxed and waned in popularity over the years — Peter instead focuses on the growth of character that comes from a transformative relationship with Jesus.
Second, he warns of false teachers and Christians who putz around with untransformed lives lived with a little bit of Jesus sprinkled on top.
Finally, he concludes with an exhortation to live today in light of eternity, encouraging us to remember that God’s time and timing isn’t our time and timing, and we should be alert and vigilant given that we don’t know when Jesus’ return will be.
