Sometimes you have two passages and make new connections. Today, we’ll see a connection between Jesus and the theology of the flood in Genesis.
Intro:
You, my friend, are theologian! We all are — the only question is then only whether or not we will be good ones.
Welcome to a new week!
Last week we ended up with the story of Noah and the great flood. And as you’ll hear us start off today with what is called the Noahnic Covenant, one of seven covenants recorded in the Bible. But before we get rolling and breeze past that whole flood story, put your “think like a theologian” hat on…
Theological Significance
(1) The flood demonstrates God’s hatred of sin and the certainty of His judgment on it. (2) God’s giving people 120 years to repent before judgment came demonstrates His patience in dealing with sin. (3) The sparing of one family demonstrates God’s saving grace. (4) The flood reveals God’s rule over nature and over humanity.(1)

Commentary:
Alright, people with ears, I hope you were listening. Did you catch that last bit? Mark uses a story of Jesus commanding the wind and the waves to demonstrate Jesus’ authority over even nature. But where did we start today? A little theology, a little observation of God’s character that we can discern from thinking about the flood — and one of those four points was God’s authority over even the weather. And here comes Jesus who does what?
He or she who has ears, let them hear.
Love you!
