What’s the difference between prophet and priest in the Bible?

Intro:

Good news, bad news today. One blessing of getting out of the lawgiving section is that the book of Numbers turns to a more relatable narrative style. The downside? There’s a bunch we could talk about that we won’t have time to.

One thing I’ll mention before we get rolling, though, is the distinction between prophet and priest. Roughly speaking, the prophet is God’s voice to the people. Like Moses. And a priest is the mediator from people to God. Like Aaron. Jesus, of course, was both, as well as King, and the sacrifice as well. BUT, however over-simplified this description might be, I hope it’s useful in light of the opening story about Miriam and Aaron. I’ll make another comment along the way.
