Today’s definition is the pinnacle of irony: nobody could actually live if there was no truth. The real question is…

Intro:

Let’s review where we’ve been. Luke’s a highly educated doctor who writes more about women and other people who were considered lesser citizens back then than any of the other gospels. And in the last couple days we’ve seen him share parts of the story about Jesus and His kingdom that demonstrate that not only is Jesus a Messiah or deliverer for all people, He can be trusted. And right at the end of yesterday, the story turns to talking about Jesus call to follow Him which means to trust Him. As we’ve seen — even demons believe He’s the Son of God, but they don’t trust and submit to Him as Lord and King of their lives. That’s what yesterday’s scary prayer was all about.

Today we’re also going to tackle Psalm 89, and since it’s a little longer than many, today’s All Our Minds segment will be super-short. Oh, and I’ve teed up the next video from The Bible Project — go to forthehope.org and search for episode 897 and scroll on down to find that.

Let’s get to it…

Bible Segment:

Passage: Luke 10-11
Translation: NIV (New International Version)
Verses: 96
Words: ~2052

All Our Minds Segment:

Post-truth, adjective: Relating to or denoting circumstances in which objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than appeals to emotion and personal belief. ~ Oxford Dictionaries(1)

The good news is that while America’s tolerance of lying is greater than ever, Americans retain enough of their Judeo-Christian ethic that they are still scandalized when a public figure lies. We have to help our neighbors understand what’s behind the current propensity for lying: A worldview that denies the existence of truth itself, which merely exacerbates our human fallenness in this area. And then we must point them to the Author of truth, the one who said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” ~ Chuck Colson, Christianity Today(2) (bold emphasis mine)

The bottom line

Today’s definition is the pinnacle of irony: nobody could actually live if there was no truth. The real question is… who gets to define it? Or put another way, who gets to play God?

Wisdom Segment:

Passage: Psalm 89
Translation: NIV (New International Version)
Verses: 45
Words: ~738

Love you!
